I built this contemporary version of a Heron sculpture for a customer as a special order.  The bird itself is stainless steel and it is welded to a round steel base coated in a textured black finish.  Each piece was hand cut and hand textured.  I made the wing three dimensional.  Overall height was around 24 inches.  It was built to be placed indoors.
